Analysis criticizes administrative costs at California community colleges

An analysis by California Watch has concluded that the state's 72 community college districts spend tens of millions of dollars on administrative positions that could be consolidated or shared by districts a short drive away. Because of budget cuts, California’s community college system has eliminated nearly a quarter of class sections, cut services and laid off employees. At the start of the fall 2012 semester, more than 470,000 students were on waiting lists for classes at state community colleges. But millions of dollars still are spent on duplicative administrative costs, the analysis says. California Watch is a journalism initiative created by the Center for Investigative Reporting.
