North Forest (Texas) district fights plan to be absorbed by Houston system

Struggling district contends that the state officials who called for the annexation are biased.

The North Forest school district has asked the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to suspend plans to eliminate the district. The Houston Chronicle says North Forest is arguing that the state officials involved in the decision to close the district are biased. North Forest officials are appealing the TEA's decision to have the Houston Independent School District absorb the struggling school system, which serves about 7,000 students this year. North Forest has been making several last-ditch attempts to save itself. Last week its school board approved an agreement that, if approved by the state, would allow a nonprofit management board and several charter schools to help run the district.
