Ohio state school superintendent is chosen

The Ohio Board of Education has named Richard Ross, Gov. John Kasich’s chief education adviser, as state superintendent of public instruction. The Columbus Dispatch says Ross was chosen over acting Superintendent Michael Sawyers; the two emerged as finalists from a field of 30 applicants. Ross, 63, is director of the governor’s Office of 21st Century Education and helped craft Kasich’s school-funding plan. He previously was superintendent of Reynoldsburg schools. Ross replaces Stan Heffner, who resigned in August after an ethics investigation found he misused state resources
