School security boost in Jefferson Parish (La.) district

School districts are continuing to bolster security on their campuses in response to last year's tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. The Jefferson Parish (La.) district will beef up school security by installing more than 2,000 surveillance cameras and retrofitting campuses so each has only one entrance for the public. The New Orleans Times-Picayune says the plan calls for every school to be outfitted with between 20 and 75 cameras per campus by 2015. Right now, officials say, security in district schools is inconsistent; some schools have only a sign-in sheet and front-desk attendant, and others have security cameras and on-campus police.
