Mississippi university will shut down New Orleans campus

Nearly eight years after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, the fierce storm has claimed another victim. William Carey University, based in Hattiesburg, Miss., says it's closing its campus in New Orleans. University President Tommy King told The Hattiesburg American that the enrollment in the nursing program offered at the New Orleans campus plummeted after the 2005 hurricane and has not rebounded. At the time Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, 337 students were enrolled in the program. Now only 80 students are enrolled. The New Orleans campus will close in December, when those 80 current students complete their courses.
