Sacramento board votes to close 7 elementary schools

The Sacramento City Unified School Board has voted to close seven schools at the end of this school year. The Sacramento Bee identifies the schools that will be closed: Washington, Maple, Collis P. Huntington, Fruit Ridge, Joseph Bonnheim, Mark Hopkins and Clayton B. Wire. Board members were scheduled to vote on the closure of 10 elementary schools, but three were removed from consideration at the start of the meeting. Superintendent Jonathan Raymond says the proposed closure of Susan B. Anthony, Bret Harte and James Marshall warranted a second look. The board is scheduled to decide next month whether to close one more elementary--either Tahoe or Mark Twain.
