University of Oklahoma sues to gain control of web domain

The University of Oklahoma says a man is violating the university's intellectual property rights by registering an Internet domain name to sell it later for a profit. The Oklahoman reports that the university has filed a lawsuit contending that Hugh Michael Glenn of Dallas bought the domain name www.soonernetwork.com with the intent of selling it to the university at a profit, a process known as cybersquatting. The university wants a judge to ban Glenn from using any of its trademarks in the future. On Monday, the website at the address in question appeared to be a service that connects Oklahomans with eldercare providers. But the suit says that business doesn't exist. (On Tuesday, the information about the eldercare service no longer appeared on the site). In September, the suit says, the webpage displayed a silhouette of a longhorn, similar to the logo used by the University of Texas, the words “Go Longhorns!!! This domain is for sale,” and a phone number for Glenn.
