Colleges implore students to put down their suitcases

Schools are making an effort to persuade students to stay on campus on weekends instead of returning home.

Students who live on campus at many schools and universities have made a habit of returning home on weekends. The lure of home-cooked meals, parents willing to do their laundry, high school friends and jobs is stronger than what is happening on campus, The New York Times says. Some campuses are trying to persuade students that they will benefit more from campus life by staying on site on weekends.

RELATED: Maybe if colleges offer students free access to laundry services, as Michigan State University is planning to do, students would be persuaded not to haul their dirty clothes home on weekends.
