A 65-year-old man in Alabama is holding a 6-year-old autistic boy hostage after fatally shooting a school bus driver and taking the boy from the bus. Al.com says the suspect has been identified as Jimmy Lee Dykes, who is described as a “survivalist” with ties to the anti-government movement. The 6-year-old boy being held hostage is autistic, authorities say, and has no apparent ties to his captor. The ordeal began Tuesday afternoon when Dykes boarded a school bus in Midland City and allegedly shot the driver several times. Dykes is holed up in a bunker near his home and authorities have been negotiating with him via a PVC pipe.
