Rapidly declining enrollment at St. Mary's High School in Independence, Mo., has persuaded the Kansas City-St. Joseph Diocese to close the 160-year-old school in May. The Independence Examiner says that 27 seniors are graduating this year, but only seven prospective freshmen have committed to the school. St. Mary's was slated to close in the future after a new Catholic high school opens in nearby Lee’s Summit, but construction on that facility has not started.
