California district settles false arrest lawsuit

Twin Rivers district will pay $650,000 to 5 men.

The Twin Rivers (Calif.) Unified School District is paying $650,000 to five men who accused district police officers of brutality and false arrest. The Sacramento Bee says the men sued the district, contending that they were arrested in 2010 for no reason. The arrests took place in front of the home of one of the men; the officer asserted that he thought the men might be truants, but all five men already had completed high school, and in any case, classes were not in session the day of the incident. After the men were taken into custody, three of them were choked by an officer, the suit said.
