Sacramento district may close 11 elementary schools

Declining enrollment has left elementary schools in Sacramento City Unified at 56 percent capacity.

From The Sacramento Bee: Faced with declining enrollment, Sacramento City Unified School Superintendent Jonathan Raymond will propose that the district close 11 elementary schools at the end of the school year. The names of the schools targeted for closing have not yet been made public. The district says its elementary enrollment is at 56 percent of capacity, and projections for future enrollment show continued declines. Overall, the district has about 47,000 students at 80 campuses.

UPDATE....from The Sacramento Bee: The schools targeted for closing are identified. The districts estimates that it would save $10 million over the next four years by closing the 11 under-enrolled campuses.
