With merged district on the horizon, Memphis school superintendent resigns

From The Memphis Commercial Appeal: As the Memphis and Shelby County (Tenn.) school districts move forward with their merger, Kriner Cash has resigned as superintendent of Memphis City Schools. That leaves Shelby County Supt. John Aitken with the lead role in combining the two districts. Cash will serve in an advisory role through July 31 and then will receive severance pay equal to six months of his regular salary, plus $17,000 in moving expenses. Cash has led the Memphis district since 2008.
