From The Memphis Commercial Appeal: As attorneys work to settle a legal dispute over the future of public schools in Shelby County, Tenn., advocates for independent suburban school districts say public schools in 2013-14 will be part a merged system governed by a unified, countywide school board. At least two suburban mayors, Mike Wissman of Arlington and Stan Joyner of Collierville, said they don't see any possibility of having any independent suburban districts in place by August. Several suburbs have tried to leave the county system as it merges with the Memphis city district, but a judge struck down a law that enabled suburbs to form municipal school districts.
