Principal in Steubenville, Ohio, agrees to community service for failing to report possible abuse

Lynette Gorman was accused of failing to report potential child abuse in connection with April 2012 incident

An elementary school principal in Steubenville, Ohio, charged with failing to report child abuse, will have her misdemeanor charge dropped if she completes 40 hours of community service – including educating others on the seriousness of sexual assault. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Lynett Gorman's case is the first to be resolved among the six adults charged by a grand jury investigating whether teachers, coaches, administrators or parents knew about or covered up sexual assaults involving high school students. Gorman's charge resulted from her failure to report knowledge of potential child abuse or neglect after hearing that a 14-year-old Steubenville High School student may have been sexually assaulted by members of the school's baseball team at an April 2012 party.
