Pennsylvania district wants to build elementary on site of golf club

Phoenixville district's plan to use eminent domain to acquire the land draws protests from community members.

Protesters are trying to persuade the Phoenixville (Pa.) Area School District not to acquire a local golf course for an elementary school site. The Pottstown Mercury News says the school board voted last month to use eminent domain to acquire Meadow Brook Golf Club in order to build an elementary school and early learning center. The owners have asked for $8 million for the property, which is more than twice the assessment value; the district's most recent offer was $5 million.
