Roy Roberts, the state appointee who manages the Detroit school district, says he will fire the superintendent that the school board hired and reverse decisions the board has made since it re-acquired control over academic affairs in August. The Detroit Free Press reports that Roberts' action comes as Michigan's new emergency manager law takes effect today and reinstates Roberts' authority over all school system operations. From August until today, the emergency financial manager law that was in place gave the school board authority over academic operations. In a memo to district employees, Roberts says he plans to issue an executive order to rescind the board's attempts to ratify employment contracts, hire five administrators and rename several schools.
