School bus drivers go on strike in Boston

A surprise strike by Boston's school bus drivers has affected more than 30,000 students. The Boston Globe reports that only 30 of the school system’s 650 buses took to the road Tuesday morning. District officials argue that the strike is illegal; the city plans to take legal action against the drivers’ union and seek disciplinary action against drivers who participated. The job action stemmed from a conflict between the schools’ transportation vendor, Veolia, and the union representing the drivers. Drivers are frustration at the way they’ve been treated since Veolia took over the busing contract this year.
