Rebuilt elementary opens in downtown Los Angeles

9th Street Elementary School in Los Angeles has been closed for three years while the campus received a $54 million renovation. Instead of 100 or so worn-out portable bungalows, the school now has 78,000 square feet of modern educational space. The Los Angeles Downtown News says the campus has reopened with 33 classrooms and 855 seats. The campus houses two schools: the elementary, which serves grades K-5, is operated by the Los Angeles Unified School District. A charter middle school run by Para Los Niños serves grades 6 to 8.
