PS 59 is housed in former Catholic School

Officials in New York City have dedicated the new Public School 59 in Staten Island. The Staten Island Advance says PS 59, known as "The Harborview School," is in the building that once housed St. Peter's Girls High School and St. Peter's Elementary School. The campus opened in September after an $11.3 million makeover of the 80-year-old building. The facility serves students in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten; plans call for adding a grade through fifth grade in each succeeding year, for an enrollment of 372 students.
