Cornell Tech, the applied sciences graduate school that Cornell University has planned for Roosevelt Island in New York City, has received a gift of $133 million that will help it offer a two-year, two-degree master’s program. The New York Times reports that Irwin Jacobs, the founder of Qualcomm, and his wife, Joan, donated the money for the program, which will be known as the Joan and Irwin Jacobs Technion-Cornell Innovation Institute. Students at the institute will specialize in connective media, more healthful living or the built environment.
