Louisiana district plans to transfer all students out of academically failing school

March 24, 2013
Creswell Elementary in St. Landry Parish district has been rated academically unacceptable for 4 straight years.

The St. Landry Parish (La.) School Board plans to transfer all students from an elementary school deemed academically unacceptable to a nearby campus where state performance scores are higher. The Baton Rouge Advocate says 196 students from Creswell Elementary in Opelousas are scheduled to attend Park Vista Elementary, about half a mile away, for the 2013-14 school year. The proposal requires the approval of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. State education officials indicated earlier this year that they planned to close Creswell, whose state test scores have been rated academically unacceptable for four consecutive years.
