Two schools sue Missouri city over denial of zoning permit

Webster University acquired land from Eden Theological Seminary, but city of Webster Groves has denied a zoning permit that would let the university expand

Webster University and Eden Theological Seminary have sued the city of Webster Grove, Mo., after the city council denied a zoning permit that would have allowed Webster University to begin using property it has acquired from Eden. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the denial has made the land "unusable and worthless." The schools argue the proposed plan for the land adheres to the city’s zoning code requirements and had been unanimously approved by the City Plan Commission. Many nearby residents oppose Webster University’s expansion, saying it would bring noise, traffic and unwanted students.
