The Cleveland school system will have to spend another $167 million – at least – to complete upgrades of its facilities, according to a commission that monitors district construction. The Cleveland Plain Dealer also reports that voters would have to approve an even larger new bond issue - $222 million – if the district continues using money from its 2001 bond issue on repairs and items not approved by the state. Voters in 2001 passed a $335 million bond issue to replace or renovate schools. The district has rebuilt or significantly renovated 32 schools and has seven school projects underway, but many campuses still need repairs.
