Bond request in Idaho district fails for the 9th time

For the ninth time in as many years, the Salmon (Idaho) district has failed to win approval of a bond proposal to repair or replace dilapidated schools. The Associated Press reports that two requests were rejected--a $14.5 million plan to build a preK-8 school and a $3.6 million bond to put new roofs on the elementary and middle schools. Because of the latest defeat, the state is expected to step in and loan the district money to replace the roofing. The closest the district came to winning over voters was in 2006 when a bond levy won 53 percent support, still far below the two-thirds majority required to pass.
