Technology director at Chicago high school stole $420,000 in school funds

Man was subsequently found dead in Mexico

The technology coordinator at a Chicago public high school stole more than $400,000 from the school, then apparently ended up choking to death in Mexico. The Chicago Sun-Times says a report from the school district’s inspector general didn’t identify the technology coordinator by name, but sources say he is Roberto Tirado, who worked at Lake View High. He created fake vendors, and much of the money went into his personal bank account, according to the report. During the course of the 2011 investigation, the technology coordinator refused to speak with the inspector general’s office, resigned from the district, fled to California and was found dead in Tijuana, Mexico.
