Accreditation denied to Kansas City (Mo.) district

The Kansas City (Mo.) school district will remain unaccredited for at least another year. The Kansas City Star reports that the Missouri Board of Education has decided not to take action on a request from district leaders to grant provisional accreditation. The district scored close to the provisionally accredited range last year and hit the mark in the most recent school performance report this year. But even with those gains seven out of every 10 of students still did not score proficient or advanced in math and reading. The lack of accreditation puts the district a step closer to being forced to comply with a student transfer law that many fear could be financially devastating.
