The Broward County (Fla.) School Board has approved the downsizing of the district's facilities department. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel says the School Board has approved eliminating 45 of the department's 70 employees and outsourcing many services. Superintendent Robert Runcie says the move was prompted by a decline in construction projects and a need to move past the department's history of mismanagement and corruption. The Broward Teachers Union has filed over a grievance over the board's action.
