Broward County district plan calls for slashing facilities department

School system looks to eliminate 45 of the department's 70 jobs.

A reorganization plan in the Broward County (Fla.) School District calls for eliminating 45 of the 70 positions in its facilities department and outsourcing many of the services the department now provides. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel says Superintendent Robert Runcie cites two major reasons for the changes: The district has little construction going on, and the department has a track record of corruption and mismanagement, as detailed in a 2011 grand jury report.
