Texas district shuts down flawed iPad initiative

Consultant for Fort Bend district says $16 million program to boost science performance wasn't working.

Problems found by a consultant have persuaded Fort Bend (Texas) district officials to shut down a $16 million initiative to bring iPads to classrooms at 14 schools. The Houston Chronicle says the program, known as iAchieve, aimed to boost student performance in science in grade two through eight with an interactive curriculum delivered via iPads. But a consultant concluded that managers of the program had inadequate skills, the vendor hired to develop the learning platform did not have the needed experience and that use of the iPads was limited.
