Trayless dining takes hold at the University of Michigan

Starting this fall semester, the University of Michigan is getting rid of the trays students use in dining halls. AnnArbor.com says that of the eight operational dining halls, seven will go trayless when students move in later this month. (The eighth dining hall needs an upgrade before it can handle a trayless system.) Eliminating trays, officials say, will reduce waste by making it inconvenient for students to plate large amounts of food and by eliminating the water and energy used to wash the trays after use.
