Detroit expands early childhood programs

The Detroit school district is expanding its early learning program with 25 additional classrooms at 14 buildings. The Detroit News says that with the expansion, the district will operate 215 pre-K classrooms at 70 schools with a capacity for 3,530 young learners. Last year, the district had a waiting list for preschool and had to turn away 521 students. The district says the increased preschool offerings are part of a new strategic plan that also includes expanded art and music programs in all elementary-middle schools and new programs for parents.
