Workers were building an addition at McDowell High in Marion, N.C.

Eight workers have been injured at a high school construction site in North Carolina after scaffolding collapsed. The Asheville Citizen-Times says the injured workers fell 34 to 40 feet while working on an addition to McDowell High School in Marion. About 15 people were on the scaffolding when it collapsed; some were able to jump and hold on to a wall until rescuers arrived. The North Carolina Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Division is investigating.
