A college student has been stabbed by another student in a classroom at East-West University in downtown Chicago.

The Chicago Tribune reports that emergency crews were called to the fourth floor of a building at East-West University around 1 p.m. Tuesday and found a 20-year-old man who had been stabbed.

The university said in an online statement that the incident took place between two students in a classroom in a university building in the city's South Loop neighborhood.

Police say a 42-year-old man allegedly stabbed the 20-year-old man in the upper back. The victim was taken to the hospital and was initially reported to be in critical condition, but the university described his condition as "stable."

The identities of those involved were not disclosed by authorities.

The older man was taken into custody.
