Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn announced grant awards totaling $25 million to local Illinois schools and institutions of higher learning through the Illinois Emergency Management Agency's Illinois School and Campus Safety Grant Program. The grants will enhance security at 448 public elementary and secondary school districts, community colleges and state universities in Illinois, according to a press release from the agency. The money will support 1,312 projects that will improve school safety, including reinforced doors, shatter-resistant glass, physical locks and other security measures that will enhance safety for students, staff and visitors.
