The blaze Sunday at Santa Paula High School in Santa Paula caused significant damage to the gym.

A fire has caused classes to be canceled at Santa Paula High School in Santa Paula, Calif

The fire started at about 1 a.m.  Sunday in the school's gym, reports CBS Los Angeles

According to officials, the Bryden Gym sustained major damage.

"Due to the structural damage and the schoolwide impact of the Bryden Gym fire, the Santa Paula Unified School District and Santa Paula High School Administration will be canceling school for Santa Paula High School students on Monday and Tuesday, November 28-29," school officials said.

The Ventura County Star reports crews from Ventura County, Fillmore, Ventura and Oxnard fire departments responded to the blaze at 12:40 a.m.

Water used to fight the fire apparently filled the basement of the gym, broke through the basement doors and flooded the lower floor of a nearby building containing math and science classrooms.

Officials say the damage to the classrooms was "definitely fixable," but were waiting for information from a restoration firm before assessing the damage.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
