A 16-year-old girl looking for a better view of a meteor shower suffered fatal injuries after falling from a school under construction in Silverdale, Wash.

KOMO-TV reports that Emily Ramm and several of her friends entered the fenced-off construction site early Saturday at Silverdale Elementary School in the Central Kitsap School District. The girl fell from a ladder that was headed toward the school roof.

Emily suffered a severe brain injury and numerous fractures from her fall. She was airlifted to a hospital in Tacoma, where she died from her injuries.

The girl was a student at North Kitsap High School in the North Kitsap district.

The Central Kitsap district has been carrying out renovations of the Silverdale campus since last year.
