A food service employee at Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville has been injured in an explosion.

WSB-TV reports that incident happened in the A-building on the north side of campus, which holds classrooms and a food court.

The Gwinnett County Fire Department says in a news release that firefighters were already on the college campus Monday morning responding to a fire alarm at the building. They did not find any smoke or fire and were preparing to leave when they heard an explosion in a woman's bathroom.

A woman, later identified as an employee of a food service company, was injured in the explosion. She was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive, fire officials say.

The cause of the explosion is not known.

Firefighters performed a search of the area and did not locate any other victims and all students are safe. Daytime classes in that building have been canceled, and night classes may be relocated.

Classes are continuing in other buildings on campus.

Georgia Gwinnett College is a four-year institution with an enrollment of about 11,000.
