Knoxville, Tenn., police say a school bus driver who was texting was responsible for a deadly December 2014 crash that killed two students and a teacher's aide.
WBIR-TV reports that investigators have concluded that James Davenport, 48, was driving while distracted on Dec. 1, 2014, when the crash occurred. Evidence showed he was sending and receiving text messages while driving Bus No. 44. The bus veered sharply, crossed a concrete median, and crashed into another school bus, from Sunnyview Primary School
The impact of the collision killed Zykia Burns, 6, Seraya Glasper, 7, and teacher's aide Kimberly Riddle, 46.
Davenport, who was injured seriously in the crash, will not face criminal charges because he died last week, days before the investigation was concluded.
