The Associated Press says many students had assembled on the stage for the grand finale of an "American Pie" concert at Westfield High School in Westfield, Ind. As they sang "Don't Stop Believin,'" the floor gave way and the students fell into the orchestra pit.
Authorities say all of the students injured in the collapse Thursday night were "doing really well," including one who initially was reported in critical condition.
Investigators are trying to determine what caused the floor of the stage to collapse. Mark Keen, superintendent of the Westfield Washington district, says it appears that the collapse occurred when a cover that is placed over the orchestra pit for some productions gave way.
