Alabama State University student charged with murder of classmate
An Alabama State University student has been charged in the killing of a classmate.
The Montgomery Advertiser reports that Ivry Hall, 20, has been charged with murder in the killing of sophomore Adam Dowdell Jr.
Dowdell, 22, who is from Alabaster, Ala., was found last week shot to death.
He was last seen Sept. 8 when he left his residence hall room in Montgomery to go to an ATM and did not return. University officials were notified of his disappearance the following day and launched an investigation.
Six days later, Dowdell's body was discovered less than a quarter-mile from ASU's campus.
"I didn't realize my child was two blocks away from me on the ground," Cohill said at a vigil for Dowdell Thursday night.
Hall, a junior, is in his third year at Alabama State and is originally from Chicago. He is well known in his Chicago community and beyond as a talented athlete and dedicated student, despite the several tragedies he has endured.
Hall graduated in 2018 as valedictorian of Tilden Career Academy in Chicago, WLS-TV reports.
