At least three others injured in incident; 21-year-old student has been taken into custody.

One student has died and multiple others were injured at the University of Texas at Austin campus after a 21-year-old student allegedly stabbed them near the Gregory Gymnasium.

KVUE-TV reports that Austin police had one person -- identified as Kendrex White -- in custody after the Monday afternoon stabbing.

All classes and events on campus were canceled as police investigated.

University police said they responded to the scene of the stabbing and found White with a large "Bowie-style hunting knife."

Austin-Travis County emergency personnel say three other people were taken to hospitals for treatment of serious injuries. An additional one or two people have minor injuries and have not been taken to the hospital, authorities say

The dead student was identified as Harrison Brown, who was a member of graduating class of 2016 at Graham High School in Graham, Texas.

University police Chief David Carter said the stabbings occurred within a one-block area as the attacker "calmly walked around the plaza," The Associated Press reports.

Carter said it would be "premature" to discuss the suspect's motive and "what was going through his mind."
