A 15-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday morning in Boston after he allegedly fired a gun in the lobby of the Boston School District headquarters building.
No one was injured. The gun, a semiautomatic pistol, jammed after one shot was fired.
WBZ-TV reports that the shooting took place around 9:20 a.m. in the administration building, where students sign up for classes.
Police Commissioner Bill Evans says the shooting occurred during a confrontation between the 15-year-old and another child who was walking down from the second floor with his mother after registering for school. Authorities believe the two know each other.
“There was some exchanging of words,"Evans says. "At that point, one of the individuals went into his backpack, pulled out a large semiautomatic handgun. A struggle ensued, (and) one shot was fired into the ceiling."
At that point, three building employees pounced on the shooter to subdue him.
