Three injured in machete attack at University of Arkansas

Attack occurred in wooded area on Fayetteville campus; police say those involved are not connected to the university.

A man armed with a machete injured two people in an attack in a wooded area of the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville.

University police say the two victims were taken to an area hospital, and one of them is in critical condition. The alleged attacker, who also was injured, was arrested.

"We believe at this time that the individuals involved are not affiliated with the university," the police said in an alert to the university community.

KFSM-TV reported that the wooded area is known camp for homeless people. Eyewitnesses say they saw a man running into the street with a cloth around his neck asking for help. Eyewitnesses also saw a man with a machete run into the woods.
