A 20-year-old man wanted in the shooting death of Wayne Community College employee Ron Lane was captured early Tuesday on a beach in Florida.
Appearing in court in Daytona Beach, Fla., after his arrest, Kenneth Stancil contended that he killed his former boss because Lane, the community college's print shop director, had molested Stancil's brother, The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports. Authorities in North Carolina have said they are investigating whether the shooting qualified as a hate crime. Stancil had worked in the print shop as part of a work-study program.
Classes at the community college resumed Tuesday; the school was offering counseling to students and employees affected by the shooting.

The Associated Press reports that a suspect entered the building with a rifle and went to the print shop on the third floor. The suspect has been identified and is believed to be a student who worked in the print shop as part of a work-study program.
The campus was placed on lockdown after the shooting, and students and staff were subsequently escorted off the campus. Classes were cancelled, and the campus was closed for the remainder of Monday.
Classes are scheduled to resume Tuesday, but the entire third floor of the Wayne Learning Center--the Library, Academic Skills Center, Educational Support Technologies, and the Print Shop--will be closed.
