When classes resume in the Houston Independent School District later this month, the 210 district police officers patrolling campuses will be wearing body cameras in an effort to enhance safety and security on campus.

KPRC-TV says the decision to equip all 210 officers comes after a pilot project earlier this year. In February, 25 school district police officers began wearing small cameras clipped to their lapels while monitoring schools and responding to various incidents.

“These cameras will serve as a vital tool to better monitor school environments, evaluate school incidents, and ensure our officers are performing well," Houston Independent School District Police Chief Robert Mock said when the pilot program was announced.
