1 student killed, another critically wounded in shooting at Kentucky State University

One student has been killed and another critically wounded in a shooting at a residence hall at Kentucky State University in Frankfort.

The Associated Press reports that a suspect who is not a student at the university has been arrested.

The shooting occurred around 3 p.m. Tuesday. Authorities haven’t publicly addressed a motive.

Frankfort police said Jacob Lee Bard was booked into jail on murder and first-degree assault charges in connection with the shooting. Police said Bard is from Evansville, Indiana, which is about 150 miles west of Frankfort.

The Frankfort State Journal reports that the shooting took place on the south side of campus near Whitney Moore Young Jr. Hall. When officers arrived on the scene, campus police already had a suspect in custody.

Frankfort Police say they believe the shooting was an isolated incident.

"Out of respect for both students and their families, the university will not release identifying or additional medical information at this time," the school said in a statement.

The university said counseling and support services are available for students, faculty and staff who may be affected by thie shooting.
