Weekend shooting injures 2 at Kentucky State University

One victim was seriously wounded; neither victim is a student or employee at the university.

Two people were wounded early Sunday in a shooting near a residence hall on Kentucky State University’s Frankfort campus.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that the shooting happened around 2:35 a.m. near Young Hall. Police said multiple people in a car opened fire on a group of people, hitting and injuring two. Neither victim was a Kentucky State student or employee, the university said.

University police officers were “already on location when the shots were fired and were able to immediately respond by securing the area,” the university said in a statement.

One of the victims was seriously injured, and the other sustained minor injuries, according to police. As of Monday afternoon, one of the injured had been released from the hospital. 

Witnesses told police they heard 15 to 20 gunshots. No details about a suspect or the car involved were disclosed.
