Four people have been injured in a shooting at Virginia State University in Petersburg.
WTVR-TV reports that police responded to a report of a shooting at the university around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday and found four people who had been wounded, Chesterfield County Police said. All four were taken to hospitals with injuries not considered life-threatening.
None of the victims or suspects are enrolled for the fall semester, according to university spokesperson Gwen Williams Dandridge. Classes start next week.
Two suspects have been charged. Xavier J. Gordon, 21, of Chesterfield County, has been charged with brandishing a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit. Clyde D. White Jr., 21, of Chesterfield County, has been charged with brandishing a firearm.
The shooting happened a few hours after a "Week of Welcome" social event for first-year students on campus ended.
