Woman killed while walking dog on college campus in California

A man allegedly beat the victim with a sledgehammer on the campus of El Camino College in Torrance.

A 40-year-old man faces murder charges after allegedly beating a woman to death with a sledgehammer on the campus of El Camino College in Torrance, California.

Fox 11 Los Angeles reports that Jeffery Davis, 40, has been charged with murder in connection with the attack on Christmas Eve.

The victim was identified as Junko Hanafusa, 65, KTLA-TV reports.

The attack occurred just after 7 p.m. on Dec. 24, on the El Camino College campus. Police say the victim was walking her dog and collecting recyclables on the campus when Davis allegedly attacked her with a sledgehammer.

The victim was taken to the hospital, but died on Christmas Day from her injuries.

This attack happened while El Camino College was closed for winter recess.

Davis is being held without bail while awaiting arraignment on Jan. 17.

Deputies said they arrested Davis not far from campus. They did not say what may have motivated the attack, and that there were no other suspects at this time.
